The measurement of flow velocities in hot and aggressive liquids like metal melts and molten glass is one of the grand challenges of industrial fluid mechanics. A physically closely related challenge is the detection of deeply lying flaws and inhomogeneities in electrically conducting solid materials. Since 2004, scientists and engineers at Ilmenau University of Technology have been developing two novel technologies termed Lorentz force velocimetry and Lorentz force eddy current testing to meet these challenges. Both technologies are based on measuring the Lorentz forces that are induced by the interaction of electrically conducting moving substances and magnetic fields. Further details can be found at http://www.tu-ilmenau.de/lorentz-force.
Successful candidates for the research positions should have
• an excellent Diploma or Master degree, preferably in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or applied mathematics,
• an excellent knowledge of the English language,
• a high motivation for interdisciplinary work in an international scientific team, and the commitment to complete the doctoral program within three years.
Experience in either fluid dynamics, force measurement, or high performance computing is helpful, but not required. Successful candidates for the postdoctoral positions should additionally have an excellent doctoral degree and a strong scientific background in either mathematical and numerical modeling or measurement technology and precision engineering.
Ilmenau University of Technology aims to establish gender equality and highly encourages women to apply. Handicapped applicants with identical qualification will be considered with priority. Special services are available concerning all social matters.
We invite all applicants to e-mail the complete set of documents in PDF format (see http://www.tu-ilmenau.de/lorentz-force/application) by 31 July, 2009 to lorentz-force@tu-ilmenau.de mentioning the va-cancy number 34/2009.

Indahnya Berbagi

award sahabat pena Lagu indah “yumede areba ii” yang dibawakan oleh grup musik SLANK itu cukup mengembalikan memori saya pada pepatah Jepang yang mengatakan “yume ga areba michi wa aru”, “if there is a will there is a way”.
