EMBL is seeking a Research Technician to join the Gene Expression Service. Our facility assembles gene-targeting and transgenic constructs for the generation of genetically modified animals. The successful candidate will be participating in all steps required for construction of large-scale DNA constructs, involving regular cloning techniques and modification of DNA by homologous recombination (recombineering). In collaboration with the head of the service, (s)he will be participating in the design of the respective targeting constructs.
Qualifications and experience:
The ideal applicant should hold an appropriate degree from a university or technical school training in molecular and cellular biology. Proven expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry is essential; familiarity with recombineering-techniques is an advantage. Previous experience in the generation of targeting constructs (design and construction of targeting vectors) will be extremely valuable, but on-the-job training would be provided. Proficiency in basic computational skills. The successful candidate is flexible and enjoys teamwork in a dynamic environment; fluent English as well as good communication skills are essential. The candidate will interact with a variety of people and should be able to flexibly coordinate her/his work with others.
An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
